Green IT Initiatives at S7 Software

We at S7 Software believe, being environment friendly is not only good for the planet but offers long term growth and sustainability for our business. Hence, both management and the employees are committed to the Green IT initiatives. These initiatives cover the entire gamut of resources used on our premises including light, water, space to desktops, servers and disposal of the same.

S7 Software undertook a Green Audit and put in place objectives, short term (immediate) and long term (phased), to be achieved in our transition to Green IT. Below is a list of initiatives which have been introduced with some in the process of completion.

Immediate Initiatives –

1) Power Management

a) Switch-off both PCs and Monitors when not in use – stickers on every PC reminding the employees of the same.

b) Replace all lightings with CFL bulbs, switching-off lights while not in use.

2) Telecommuting

a) Tele-conferencing and option to work from home, reducing gas emissions due to travel.

b) Use of VoIP, reducing telephony wiring infrastructure.

3) Newsletter and other marketing material is available only as a soft copy, with notice to print the same only if it’s absolutely essential.

4) Using re-loaded laser cartridges for printing.

5) Disposing of obsolete IT products by giving it off to schools in rural areas.

 

Phased, on going Initiatives –

1) Replacing all CRT monitors with LCDs, efficient usage of space, power with reduced strain on employee’s eyes.

2) Server Virtualization, reduce power and cooling consumption.

3) Insisting on Green IT labels from all Hardware Vendors.
